DIY – How To Make A Bobble Hat With A Pompom Keyring

20171208_112418A really simple DIY for you here. I came across these super cute, super fluffy faux fur pompom keyrings in Poundland a few weeks ago, and instantly thought ‘Bobble Hat!’. My Mum is always knitting beautiful hats and gives me new ones every time I see her, and though they’re wonderfully soft and warm, they’re a little plain as they are. But a huge faux fur pompom for £1?! Yes please. The idea was instant.

20171208_112455It’s really easy to do – just take a pair of scissors or small pliers to remove the metal loop of the keyring from the elastic loop of the pompom and separate the two.

20171208_112548_00120171208_112620Then it’s just a case of threading a needle, securing it to the hat, and then sewing through the small loop in the pompom a couple of times to secure the pompom to the hat.

20171208_11281020171208_112850Once the two are joined, you need to turn the hat inside out, keeping the pompom in place. I put my hand inside the hat, grip the pompom, and holding it, turn the hat inside out and grip the outside of the hat so that the pompom is tucked neatly inside.

20171208_11295820171208_113040This way, you can securely sew a larger area of the pompom, keeping it perfectly in place so that it’s well attached and not too wobbly on top of the hat!

20171208_113056Make fairly large stitches from side to side (around ¾ of an inch across) until the pompom is well secured. Do a few very small stiches to end off the thread and voila! Your completed hat!

20171208_11332420171208_113428How cute do these three look with their pompoms? And a total bargain to make too! So glad as well, as with all the snow we’ve had recently, a snuggly hat has been an essential!
